The Sphere Standards Training delivered in Istanbul, Türkiye (January 2024) was implemented by NSDation in partnership with the IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation to strengthen the application of humanitarian standards among frontline practitioners. Conducted in Arabic, the training targeted humanitarian staff working across operational contexts, aiming to build a solid foundation in the Sphere Handbook and its practical use in programme design and implementation.
The training introduced participants to the core principles of Sphere, including dignity, accountability, and rights-based approaches, while providing structured guidance on the Humanitarian Charter, Protection Principles, Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS), and the four technical chapters. Through interactive and participatory methods, participants engaged with real-life examples, linking global standards to their daily operational challenges.
A strong emphasis was placed on practical application, culminating in a group-based case study exercise where participants developed response plans that integrated and adapted Sphere standards to realistic scenarios. The training contributed to strengthening participants’ capacity to design more principled, context-sensitive, and quality-focused humanitarian interventions.
