The Sphere Introductory Trainings delivered in Gaziantep and Hatay, Türkiye, were conducted for the Welthungerhilfe (WHH) team to strengthen the application of humanitarian standards across their operations in the Syria response context. The trainings aimed to build a foundational understanding of the Sphere Handbook and support staff in integrating quality and accountability principles into programme design and implementation.

Structured as two-day intensive courses, the trainings introduced participants to the core components of Sphere, including the Humanitarian Charter, Protection Principles, and the Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS). The sessions also covered key technical sectors such as Nutrition, Shelter and Settlements, and Non-Food Items (NFIs), with a strong emphasis on linking standards to operational realities and challenges faced by field teams.

The methodology combined interactive presentations with group-based case studies, enabling participants to apply standards in practical scenarios and reflect on their relevance to ongoing humanitarian interventions. The trainings supported WHH teams in strengthening a shared understanding of principled humanitarian action, enhancing programme quality, and promoting more consistent application of standards across locations.
