Participant Perspectives on Livelihoods and Social Cohesion in the LIFE Project in Türkiye
Published
December 2019

The qualitative study presents key findings from focus group discussions conducted under the LIFE Project in Türkiye, exploring how livelihood support in the food sector contributes to skills development, economic resilience, and social cohesion among Syrian refugees and host communities. Through participatory discussions with programme participants in Istanbul and Mersin, the study captures lived experiences, motivations, and barriers to entering and sustaining food-based enterprises. It highlights gains in confidence, entrepreneurship, and networking, while identifying structural constraints such as financial limitations, unequal access to opportunities, and challenges in social integration. The findings inform practical recommendations to strengthen programme design, enhance inclusion, and support more sustainable livelihood pathways.
